Skills Center - Providence

This is a year round program for Rhode Islanders age 16-21. We provide a full range of services designed to provide the skills needed to compete in today’s job market. We offer GED programs (340 GEDs in 2009-2010), job acquisition skills trainings and job placement assistance. If you know a high school drop out that may benefit from the fastest growing GED and Job Skills program in Rhode Island, we are pleased to offer you our services- referrals are always appreciated. The three Learn to Earn Skills Centers provide clean, bright, and safe environments. Our staff of retired Rhode Island teachers work diligently to energize all students using textbook based, computer based and web based curricula. All enrollees are connected with a case manager. For qualifying students, we provide bus fare, reimburse mileage, and offer free parking at the Mall. This year, 200 students (based on income and other criteria) will qualify for up to $1000 in incentives for participation in our program.

By Car

Take exit 22C from route 95 North or South.
Follow signs for the Providence Place Mall.
Park in any mall garage. (bring ticket for validation if student)
Walk out to Francis Street which is the street in front of the mall (the street on which you can see the Rhode Island State House) We are an outside entrance.
Walk to the middle of the mall and stop in front of Joe’s American Bar and Grill.
To the left of Joes is a wide walkway that leads to a set of stairs that goes down (approximately 50 yards long)
As you go down the stairs, you will see our sign (Providence Skills Center) on your right.
We are located at the bottom of the stairs on the right.

By Bus

From Kennedy Plaza, walk to the Providence Place Mall, making sure to stay outside of the mall on the sidewalk directly in front of the mall.
Walk up the hill passing Pizzeria Unos (on your left), an exit from the mall parking and cross over the river on the bridge.
As soon as you cross the bridge, take a left turn. (you will see Joe’s American Bar and grill on your right)
Follow this walkway for 50 yards until you come to a set of stairs going down.
As you go down the stairs, you will see our sign (Providence Skills Center) on your right.
We are located at the bottom of the stairs on the right.
